Maintain Your Central Air Conditioner
To achieve high efficiency it’s important to maintain your cooling system.
Be sure to change your filter regularly to prevent dust and dirt from building up which is one of the most common reasons for system failure. Filters should be changed every 3 months and inspected every month during the summer when usage is high.
Proper maintenance includes inspecting electrical connections, testing system controls, lubricating parts and inspecting the condensate drain. These maintenance checks are essential in preventing expensive repairs or replacement of an air conditioning unit.
Indoor and outdoor coils need to be cleaned as dirty coils cause the system to run longer, inefficiently and shorten its lifespan.
Check your central air conditioner’s refrigerant charge and adjust it if necessary to make sure it meets manufacturer specifications - an incorrect level can damage the compressor.
For those who are uninitiated and without HVAC experience, we offer annual maintenance inspections and recommend you schedule a visit every spring before the air conditioning system starts operating more frequently during warmer months.
