These devices are installed in commercial premises and newer residential sprinkler systems as a means to protect the municipal water supply from contamination (including; boiler chemicals, cleaners, pesticides, etc) by not allowing anything to enter the water supply in low flow conditions.
Cross connection control (backflow) devices are required by the Water Utility Bylaw to be tested annually with reports sent to The City of Calgary Water Services.

We were firing up the A/C units for the summer, but something was not quite right. Called STAT because their sticker was on the units, and received a very warm welcome and a quick appointment date. Technician was right on time and knew what he was looking for and doing. Repaired some miswiring from a previous tech who had changed the thermostat for heat during the middle of the winter. Fired everything up and measured pressure, temperature on each air outlet, and overall air flow. Cleanup up the furnaces and filters while he was at it. Still had timeleft over on his basic time allotmentso he checked the outdoor condenser air flows and touched up the coils. System chugged away like a charm all summer.We will definitely call them back here next Spring. Well managed company with great staff! Thank You!
Scheduling an appointment was easy, accommodated our emergency request - HVAC wasnโt working and we were having an event.Mike, the technician, came within 30 minutes, did not wasted any time and directly went into the work. Diagnosed the problem and went ahead with resolving the issue. He is a knowledgeable person and could see his interest. Also taught us on how to do basic maintenance of the HVAC.Issued fixed in 2 hours.We are a happy customer!

I was debating between a 4* and 5* review. There was an initial issue with the appointment but I have to admit STAT pulled all stops when they realized their mistake and did right by the customer. I was especially impressed with the service tech (Delaine N.); the problem was intermittent and difficult to pin down. I do have a basic understanding of electrical wiring and Delaine went through his analysis with me and ensure I clearly knew what he was doing and why. He was finally able to pinpoint the problem after much back and forth analysis and testing and I now have a much better understanding of my HVAC system.5 stars - solid.

Called for an emergency furnace repair for one of my rental properties after hours and the technician was quick and honest. After reviewing my options I decided to go with a new high efficiency furnace. The installation team was friendly and did a fantastic job on the installation. There are two types of devices to be tested.
Reduced-pressure principle assembly, pressure vacuum breaker assembly, double-check valve assembly and registered Air Gaps.
Secondary types of devices include; hose connection vacuum breakers, atmospheric vacuum breakers and residential check valves.

Testing of Cross Connection Control (Backflow) Devices
All cross connection devices need to be tested and we can ensure and verify they are operating correctly. We inspect internal seals, moving parts and springs which can break or fatigue over time causing failure. Property or tenant owners are responsible for having cross connection devices tested. According to the Water Utility Bylaw all owners must have their cross connection devices tested;
- At the time of installation of a new Testable Cross Connection Control Device
- Annually or as required by the Director, Water Resources
- At the time that a Testable Cross Connection Device is relocated
- At the time that a Testable Cross Connection Control Device is cleaned, repaired or overhauled
- In the case of an irrigation system, at the time the system is turned on at the beginning of each irrigation season.
